Reconstruction of the old city hall in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia. The already exisiting almost rectangular-shaped central area is roofed by a one-layered steel dome roof structure.
It was basically important during the design procedure that the new structure could not connect under any circumstances to the already existing brick structure because of instable structural condition. For this reason the roof is supported by 4 reinforced concrete pillars each with the height of 12m starting from the cellar level.
The connections between the dome roof structure and the supporting beams are provided by 2,5 m high, 24 and 28 m long spanned truss-girders running along the edge. The roof will get a glass covering.
